School commended for its annual reporting

Dunedin’s Liberton Christian School is rated in the top four small schools in the country for its annual reporting.

The school was yesterday presented with a commendation for its 2003 annual report from the Institute of Chartered Accountants New Zealand (ICANZ).

ICANZ Otago councillor Graham Crombie said the awards were held to encourage better reporting of financial statements but were not an indication of the financial success of organisations which won awards.

It was the second time the Liberton had won a commendation from the institute for its annual report.

Liberton, which had about 63 pupils, won in the under-100 pupil school section.

The school’s annual report stood out because as well as figures the school included information and photographs showing its intended direction, he said.

“What they have tried to do is make it something they can give to parents and the community.”

School board of trustees treasurer John van Dyk, who put together the report with help from its principal and chairman, said the award was great recognition for the school.
