AIMING TO CREATE THE DESIRE TO LEARNBig plans as roll continues to increase. THIS has been an exciting year for Liberton Christian School. Since the decision to opt for State Integration four years ago, it has seen a considerable swell in the roll. This year in particular the roll has increased to a point where the vision of providing a four-classroom school looks close to realisation. This year also saw the completion of a new library area. Next year, 2004, a new administration area and a fourth classroom are planned. Despite the growth in numbers, Liberton Christian School remains committed to the provision of a quality learning environment with a small teacher/pupil ratio. Its desire is to provide the best quality Christian education possible while maintaining the state curriculum and its inherent advantages to the school. Liberton Christian School’s educational philosophy is that many parents believe an important measure of a school’s academic standards is seen in the volume of work that their children complete, both in the classroom and at home. Some think if their child is in an accelerated class or in a rigidly directed learning environment, then all is well. Liberton Christian School does not hold to this philosophy. It believes it is more important to create within a child the desire to learn and the habit of working hard without the need for continual direction. It aims to foster within a child the willingness to take some of the responsibility for learning, realising that he/she has a responsibility before God to do so. Does this mean that the school does not have high expectations for its children? Not at all! On the contrary, it aims for high standards, inner motivation and a holistic development of character, rather than for children who may be academically advanced but uncaring towards others.
